Bad Ass Artist – Robert Walker Edition
Pain and isolation come standard issue with the human condition. Many artists thrive from these places, and it often shows in their work. The energy that radiates from the work of Robert Walker is different. To steal a quote from the Willy Wonka Soundtrack, “Come with me and you’ll be, in a world of pure imagination”.
Most adults no longer have the ability to play, as they’ve lose touch with the powerful source of its inspiration. Robert Walker clearly has no such problem. His imagination has instead evolved to the point of being beyond control. Yet, he uses his paintbrush to harness and wield this powerful force of creation. His childlike wonder is apparent in his smile, and in every piece of fantastical imagery that he brings back with him from the flip side. We could all stand to learn a thing or two from the imagination of Robert Walker.
Far from a being a specialist or one trick pony, Robert can and will paint it all. Mermaids (And mermen!), depictions of apocalypse, scenes of environmental disaster, wonderful utopias, terrifyingly realistic zombies, beings from other worlds, white rabbits, unicorns, and so much more!
He spends a large portion of his time traveling, bouncing from art show to art show and living his dream. From the moment I stumbled across his work at a small gallery in the Oregon District of Dayton Ohio, I’ve been mesmerized by his versatility and skill. Something has always struck me about the eyes in his paintings, as if they are actually transmuting living energy through the canvas. I half expect the characters to climb out and ask me for a cigarette.
Without further ado, this is the Bad Ass Artist Robert Walker Edition!
