I Don’t Like Jimmy Fallon
Jimmy Fallon isn’t a guy who rubs me the wrong way, and would probably be fine to share a drink with. But I don’t know that Jimmy Fallon. The Fallon I know is a public persona, and in my opinion, the worst straight man in the history of comedy. It’s not that he isn’t funny, it’s that he can’t handle working with hilarious people in a live setting. How many skits has Jimmy Fallon outright ruined with uncontrollable schoolgirl laughter? The breaking character laugh can be funny, so long as it’s not a regular occurrence.
You could easily fill an hour with Jimmy Fallon falling apart on Live TV. He simply cannot be trusted to hold a straight face while in the presence of Will Ferrell. And of course, I’m not suggesting such is an easy task. But why he is always live? You already know what’s going to happen! Jimmy Fallon is a talented running back who cannot hold onto the football.
The real problem with this is that he pulls the other characters out as well. If your friend starts laughing when he isn’t supposed to, you’re gonna laugh as well. Otherwise stone faced comedic killers commonly loosen their hold around Fallon, somewhere soon after the time he starts laughing. At this point, Ferrell or another is forced to struggle through their lines.
Hold yourself together Fallon.
Unfortunately, this isn’t my only gripe with Mr. Fallon. When it comes to the late night gig, he also hasn’t come close to pulling off a convincing fake laugh. I say throw it out the window. Smile if it’s not funny enough to laugh at, but for the love of God Fallon, cut it out.
All that said, Fallon’s music video and the song for “Idiot Boyfriend” will always be a personal favorite. As will his role in the Jeffrey’s SNL skit, although he corpsed multiple times there as well. I certainly don’t hate Jimmy Fallon, but I do not like him.
